Miley Cyrus Steps Up To Tackle Homeless LGBT Youth Problem

the Happy Hippie Foundation seeks to help youth and reduce homelessness

Make fun of "Wrecking Ball" all you want—Miley Cyrus has stepped up to provide something the United States is hungry for: a foundation to support homeless LGBTQ youth.
The Supreme Court's case on same-sex marriage has a lot of people wondering if marriage equality will be considered the final frontier of LGBTQ issues. Many people would like to deflect some of the marriage energy over to other pervasive issues—like homeless LGBTQ youth. A lot of celebrities are willing to come out in favor of marriage equality, but how many of them are going as deep as Miley?
A few years ago, a Williams Institute study revealed that 40% of homeless youth identify on the LGBTQ spectrum. Cyrus aims to combat that with the Happy Hippie Foundation, which will collaborate with My Friend’s Place, a homeless youth center in California. The foundation will also provide support online and raise money.
You can already listen to exclusive tracks to raise money and awareness for the foundation, the Backyard Sessions, by Cyrus and Joan Jett. These will continue to feature other artists as well, including Ariana Grande and Laura Jane Grace.
The website, happyhippies.org, details their mission and provides resources for LGBTQ youth. Visit there to donate or find help, or check out their Facebook page.
