During Fox's premiere of new show Gotham, the storyline heated up when two female characters alluded to having a past romantic, if not sexual, relationship. Barbara Kean, Jim Gordon’s Finance, and Renee Montoya, Major Crimes Detective, seemed to have been more than friends at some point in their lives.

Here's how the plotline goes down: Renee (Victoria Cartagena) rushes to see Barbara (Erin Richards) when she thinks Barbara’s fiance , Jim Gordon, might be part of a scheme to convict an innocent man. But the conversation between the women is a tad too familiar -- almost reminiscent of exes speaking for the first time since their break up. During the visit Renee tells Barbara that she came to warn her that Jim is “not a good guy” and that she “deserves better.” Then Renee gets personal asking Barbara, “Does he know you… like I know you?” Barbara shuts the conversation down by just saying, "don't." It's a small interaction but the sexual tension in the scene is clearly there and it looks like Renee hasn’t quite gotten over whatever they had together.
The character “Renee” has been a canon lesbian character, and one of the few characters of color, throughout all the different versions of the Batman comic books. However, “Barbara” was never seen as a queer character in the comic books and it looks like the writers took it upon themselves to make her bisexual. With only one episode into Gotham, it looks like we’ll be having a spicy bisexual-love-triangle storyline to look forward to (at least that's what we're hoping)!
