Saturday Night Live’s Emmy-nominated out cast member, Kate McKinnon, set the record straight on Late Night with Seth Meyers Monday in response to some controversy about this genius cat lady sketch she performed with Charize Theron.
“I would like to issue a formal apology: I care very deeply for cats,” McKinnon said reagrding the sketch. “I was not, in fact, making fun of the employees of that cat shelter—It was a different cat shelter that I’d been to years before.”
The sketch in question featured McKinnon and Theron as "eccentric" employees at a cat shelter. The sketch elicited a reaction from a shelter that McKinnon visited a week before that episode aired, and also upset some cat-loving viewers. Phew. It's good to know that McKinnon does in fact love cats.
