Oscars 2014, offered little to no surprises when it came to the winners (I really do wish I'd bet on the outcome), Nobody got wildly political and nobody streaked, but the evening did offer up some tearjerking, silly, outrageous, and truly moving moments. Here are some of our favorites!
Ellen Reels In the Audience with her Signature Silly
Looking like the hottest David Copperfield -- or Shirley Partridge--ever, Ellen delivered an opening monologue teeming with her signature gentle humor, poking fun at the Los Angeles rain, June Squibb as the oldest nominee at 84, and the real Liza Minelli actually being a drag version of herself. She also picked on Hollywood darling Jennifer Lawrence for falling -- AGAIN!
Jennifer Lawrence's Epic Oscar Fall #2
Speaking of Jennifer falling... Last year's Best Actress winner is two for three falling at the Oscars! Last year she memorably tripped on her way to the podium to accept her award, and this year she tripped Edina Monsoon style over an orange cone after just climbing out of her limo.
P!nk Pays Loving Tribute to Judy Garland and The Wizard of Oz
Aerialist P!nk kept her feet firmly on the ground to pay homage to the great Judy Garland with a soaring rendition of Judy's first signature song "Over the Rainbow." Even with Judy's children Liza Minnelli and Lorna and Joey Luft looking on P!nk nailed the number wearing a sparkling red dress to match the ruby slippers.
John Travolta Spawns Adele Dazeem Phenomenon
This gets filed under outrageous! For someone who professes to be a big fan of the musical, Travolta sure didn't know who the "wickedly talented" Idina Menzel is, as he dubbed her "Adele Dazeem" when he introduced the Broadway diva to sing the anthem "Let It Go" from Frozen. The f*ck-up that spawned a 1,000 memes also landed Adele Dazeem her own Twitter handle. And, it is pretty good press for Idina!
Idina Menzel Blows the Doors Off the Joint with "Let It Go"
Despite the crappy introduction she got Idina delivered a roof-raising performance of Frozen's hit song!
Lupita Nyong'o's Tearjerking Speech
Newcomer Lupita is the "It" girl of this awards season, and her speech for her win for Best Supporting Actress in 12 Years a Slave was top-notch. It's up there with the best speeches of all time. Don't let us tell you. Watch this class act in action.
Somewhere Backstage THIS Happened!
Pharrell Williams Makes Lupita, Amy, and Meryl 'Happy!'
It was a good night for Pharrell, who performed the insanely catchy ditty "Happy" from Despicable Me 2. He managed to get a quick dance in with nominees Lupita Nyong'o and Amy Adams, but the crowing moment was Meryl Streep shimmying with him. You know you've won when you've made Meryl shimmy.
Ellen and Samsung Take Best Photo EVER - Twitter Breaks
So Ellen's selfie taking moments were heavily sponsored by Samsung... That's the world we live in now. She didn't manage to get the best photo EVER, and she broke Twitter when the photo was retweeted over 2 million times!
