The US Women look to the 2015 World Cup following a convincing victory

A year out from the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the United States — led by veteran Abby Wambach — proven they are a force to be reckoned with. On Sunday, the U.S. trounced Costa Rica 6-0 to win the CONCACAF Women’s Championship for the fifth time.

Wambach had four of the United States’ six goals in her second four-point game of the tournament. She now has a total of 18 career World Cup qualifying goals, a new American record.

The US officially earned a spot in the World Cup tournament on Friday with a win over Mexico, but Sunday’s convincing victory proved the ladies are revved to avenge their heartbreaking 2011 Final loss to Japan.

Wambach, who married fellow pro footballer Sarah Huffman last year, now has 177 international goals and counting over a celebrated career. She also logged an assist in Sunday’s match, heading the ball to Carli Lloyd in the 17th minute.
