Shot of the Day: Megan Rapinoe and Lori Lindsey for 'Love Conquers Hate'

How about some out soccer players for your Hump Day?

Out and proud US Women’s soccer midfielders Megan Rapinoe and Lori Lindsey have joined forces with the Human Right’s Campaign’s (HRC) “Love Conquers Hate” campaign, to bring awareness to Russia’s recent anti-propaganda law targeting the LGBT community in the country, according to AfterEllen

In preparation for the Sochi Olympics, Rapinoe, Lindsey, and many other celebs, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristen Bell, and Chelsea Handler, have taken photos of themselves wearing the Russian language version of the “Love Conquers Hate” tees, and posted their pictures in support via Twitter and Instagram.

The law was recently enacted in Russia and makes it illegal to hold a public demonstration in favor of gay rights,to speak in defense of gay rights, or to support same-sex relationships.

You can buy the HRC shirts online for a donation ranging from $28-$500, with 100% of the proceeds going to LGBT advocacy groups in Russia.

Rapinoe is currently playing in France and is listed on the US national team’s 2013 roster, and Lindsey plays in Australia and is listed in the US 2013 player pool.

Both players came out publicly in 2012, Rapinoe in an interview with Out Magazine and Lindsey with Autostraddle.   To date Rapinoe has advocated for LGBT organizations like the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and Athlete Ally, a non-profit focusing on ending homophobia and transphobia in sports.
