Welcome to PRIDE's LGBT entertainment podcast, WerQ!
Join editor-in-chief Raffy Ermac and culture writer Taylor Henderson as we chat with avante-garde musician and outspoken LGBT ally, Allie x!
The Toronto native stopped by to talk about her obsession with Celine Dion, voiceover work on RuPaul's Drag Race, her favorite song she's written for Troye Sivan, being one of the powerful female headliners at this year's Los Angeles Pride festival, and the guys who think the #MeToo movement is turning into a witch hunt:
"The pendulum had swung so far in one directrion. Now I feel like it's swinging the other way - and maybe it is going too far, but I don't really see the harm in that. Eventually, it's going to even out. If people are on their toes, who cares? They're going to be more polite, there's going to be more opportunities, they're gonna think before they slap your ass or stuck your hand up your dress, you know? It don't bother me."
Allie also debuted her new song, "Focus."
"This song is about having that person, or even that place within yourself where you can go while the rest of the world is falling apart and you can just kind of pause and have that quiet safe moment. For me, it's about another person, when I look into their eyes and feel like everything else can just stop.
It's a love song. Which I don't write a lot of them. It's like an apocalyptic love song."
