A landmark year for the star of Euphoria and The White Lotus.
It’s hard enough to get one Emmy nomination, but the iconic Sydney Sweeney has totally broken the mold this year.
On Tuesday, July 12, Sweeney was nominated for an Emmy Award in two acting categories for completely different performances. First and foremost, she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Cassie Howard on Euphoria season two. Moreover, Sweeney was also nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her performance as Olivia Mossbacher on The White Lotus season one.
Naturally, Sweeney was completely blown away after receiving two Emmy nominations and went on social media to share her reaction. In a video posted on Instagram, the actress can be seen talking to her mom on the phone and getting all choked up. She wrote in the caption:
“What a morning! Thank you so much to the @televisionacad for my Emmy nominations! It’s an honor to know that both Olivia and Cassie have connected with so many. I’m so proud of both these shows and grateful to everybody that’s been a part of them. But most importantly, mom, I love you, we did it through the ups and downs! Thank you thank you!!”
The second season of The White Lotus will be set in Sicily and will mostly feature an entirely new cast as the series focuses on different characters and storylines, so Sweeney isn’t expected to reprise her role on the show. In turn, Sweeney is absolutely expected to return as Cassie on Euphoria season three.
Besides her work on television, Sweeney is making her way to the big screen in a huge way by starring in National Anthem alongside Paul Walter Hauser, Eric Dane, Halsey, and others. She has also been cast in the upcoming Madame Web film, which is set in Sony’s Spider-Man cinematic universe, along with Dakota Johnson and Emma Roberts.
Cassie might have been a hot mess on the latest season of Euphoria, but Sweeney is slaying the game out there in Hollywood.
