It’s Raven, hunty!

This week, Emmy-winning makeup artist and drag performer Raven shared a never-before-seen image of RuPaul getting her faced touched up behind-the-scenes while filming an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

There’s always been a sense of mystique behind the construction of the RuPaul drag persona, so this seemingly casual picture is actually an unprecedented record of Mama Ru’s process while making television.

Raven wrote in the post:

“#TBT Touchups.”

Raven has been RuPaul’s official makeup artist since the filming of season nine, when Ru’s longtime collaborator Mathu Andersen was no longer available to work on Drag Race. The reasons behind Andersen’s departure are still unclear, but that’s when Raven started to do RuPaul’s face for all of her projects, photoshoots, and appearances. She is still RuPaul’s makeup artist as of 2022.

Previously, Raven was best known as the runner-up on both Drag Race season two and All Stars 1. She’s also appeared on Drag U, Secret Celebrity Drag Race, and made guest appearances on different seasons of Drag Race UK. Most recently, there was an entire comedic segment dedicated to Raven on the grand premiere of All Stars 7.

In 2021, Raven described the process of doing RuPaul’s makeup in an interview with Variety, which you can watch below.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7 is now streaming on Paramount+.
