The idea of rebooting Buffy the Vampire Slayer has been tossed around for some time now, with new rumors flying every couple of years. At one point, Monica Owusu-Breen, who worked on shows like Lost, Fringe, and Agents of SHIELD, was reportedly tapped to helm a new version of the beloved show for modern audiences.

The accusations against Buffy creator Joss Whedon that have dropped over the last several years likely didn’t help move things along, and there’s been no real word about bringing everyone’s favorite vampire slayer back to TV since 2018.

But if it were to happen any time soon, Sarah Michelle Gellar — Buffy Summers herself — already knows who she thinks should take over the mantle.

“I vote Zendaya,” she said in conversation with Evan Ross Katz for his new book, Into Every Generation a Slayer Is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Hearts, reports ScreenRant.

Zendaya is definitely keeping busy these days, between Euphoria, Marvel movies, and generally being both a proven and still-rising star. But seeing her tackle such an iconic role would be pretty incredible.

“That would be amazing,” Julie Benz, who played vampire Darla in the series, said in reply to Gellar’s suggestion.

Buffy fans remain iffy on a reboot in general, but it seemed that casting Zendaya could win folks over all the same.

The likelihood of this happening probably isn’t great, all things considered, but it’s still incredibly fun to think about. Those vamps wouldn’t stand a chance.
