Lesbian Period Drama ‘Gentleman Jack’ Shares First Look For Season Two

We have waited one thousand years!

It’s been a long and painful wait for the return of Gentleman Jack, but after two and a half years, we finally have pictures of the upcoming second season and a promise that it will be here soon.

The lesbian period drama riffs on the real life diaries of Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) and her refusal to do anything but live the life she wants, despite the times. The first season saw her determined to restore her late uncle’s estate and reclaim the coal mine that other shady business owners have taken advantage of in her uncle’s neglect. During that time, she meets, woos, and weds the delicate Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle), despite the scandal it creates.

Our knowledge of what season two will bring is still limited, other than that Anne and Ann are setting up house together and hoping to use their considerable family inheritances to retain a certain level of power in the community.

Production was repeated delayed thanks to COVID, but Jones and Rundle have shared what they could from set over the year it took to film the presumably short season (season one only ran for eight episodes). As content putting queer stories front and center is still in relatively short supply and high demand from the LGBTQ+ community, fans of Gentleman Jack have been itching for more.

Fortunately, we finally got our wish! First look photos were released today, and while they don’t provide much info in terms of plot, getting to see these lovely ladies in their element once again makes it all feel worth the wait.

Is it time to freak out? It’s definitely time to freak out.

An exact premiere date hasn’t been set, but the new season is set to hit BBC One sometime this spring, and will hopefully follow in the United States on HBO shortly thereafter.
