The Winner of 'RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 6' Brings the Show Full Circle
Our new winner has been crowned!
It's official! After the longest season of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars ever (twelve hour-long episodes!), the winner of the sixth season has been crowned, and it is the one and only...
(Spoilers ahead obviously!)
Kylie Sonique Love!
Love might've gone home in fourth on Season 2, but this fierce queen fought her way to the top in this competition alongside runner-ups Eureka!, Giner Minj, and Ra'Jah O'Hara. She won one maxi challenge and two mini-challenges throughout the season and her charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent was enough to snatch the crown on Thursday's finale episode that premiered on Paramount+.
With her shante into the Hall of Fame: Love has become the first out transgender woman to win in the show's herstory. To bring that full circle, she was also the first contestant on the show to come out as transgender on Season 2's reunion episode in April of 2010.
Drag Race has come a long way with transgender representation in the last decade and while it's always been a great showcase for needed conversations within the LGBTQ+ community, it has been critiqued for transphobia, even from RuPaul himself who had to publicly navigate some biases of his own. Even the theme-song and catchphrases had to be updated to get in with the more inclusive times. It feels like a relic now, but "You got she-mail" was said in every episode until Season 7 when it was replaced with "She done already had herses." Seemingly commenting on how far we've come, Love flipped that on its head when she entered the werkroom in All Stars 6, saying, "Oh girl, you got fe-mail."
This marks a new era in the show's herstory and we couldn't be prouder!
Congratulations Kylie!
