Queer Eye is back for a sixth season and this time, the Fab 5 is taking Texas by storm.

Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, and Tan France explore Austin, Texas for ten episodes where they make over new heroes physically and emotionally.

Ahead of tomorrow's premiere, we had a chat with a couple of the stars and France admits that he didn't quite know what to expect going into the city.

"There's a term that they use in Texas, Keep Austin weird," France tells PRIDE. "It's a kooky city, people are a little bit more eccentric."

Like many people inside the U.S. and around the world, France had some preconceived notions about the state.

"When I was a kid, I heard a lot about Texas and I expected it to be, quite frankly, a little backwards and incredibly conservative. Austin was different from all of that."

"Austin proper," Brown chimes in.

France nods, "What we saw that I interacted with was liberal and fun. I had a wonderful time. It definitely exceeded my expectations. I wasn't expecting to like it quite honestly. I was not looking forward to going to Texas but I had a lovely time in Austin."

This season has a different energy than the ones before it, partly because of the location, but because of a certain pandemic.

"I think it's the impact of covid and the political climate we were in," Brown points out. "We just came out of something we all experienced and [the heroes] were like, 'I need help. I need to know how to process this. I need to know how to find myself again.' I thought that was different."

Ultimately, "There was a new sense of vulnerability but also a new sense of global community, of wanting to give back, and you see that so much in our heroes this time."

Brown is most excited for viewers to meet Dr. Jericha who, during the pandemic, opened community centers to give black and brown people access to covid testing and vaccines. Brown calls her, "the epitome of black excellence, black joy."

The Fab 5 also assists "a trans athlete and she is phenomenal. I don't think you see conversations with the trans community like that."

France's favorite moment is a prom episode. "We took on a school," he says, which felt "really special."
