If You’re Mad About Superman Coming Out as Bisexual, Watch This

“Are you afraid he and Lex Luthor will trick you into a threesome?”

Comedian Amber Ruffin has some words for anyone bitter about Superman's coming out.

Jon Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, comes out as bisexual and kisses his male love interest in Superman: Son of Kal-El #5, on stands November 9.

The groundbreaking moment went viral last week and incited excitement as well as vitriol, especially from conservatives. Dean Cain, the actor who played Clark Kent in the 90s series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, even called it "bandwagoning" on Fox & Friends. "I don’t think it’s bold or brave," he said.

Ruffin responds on her Peacock series The Amber Ruffin Show. “People are losing their sh*t,” she says. “Y’all are really upset that the new Superman will be bisexual? He’s a fictional character. He’s not even the original Superman.”

“Are you afraid he and Lex Luthor will trick you into a threesome? You wish! Look how handsome these men are. You could never!”

For anyone who thinks this is "ruining" your childhood, "B*tch, please," Ruffin says. "If a comic book character being bisexual ruined your childhood, your childhood was trash to begin with. Instead of fixating on Superman’s son, maybe you should focus on things happening in the real world, like school shootings, anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers because they are literally ruining childhoods."

It's not about an agenda, it's about representation, Ruffin points out. "One day, that child is going to pick up a comic book and see an iconic character that’s associated with strength, honesty, and America," she says. "And they’re gonna see that that person is just like them and that it is okay to be who they are, and it will change their life."

“The only queer agenda is living an open and happy life,” Ruffin concludes. “Oh, and saving the world from upcoming meteors.”
