Love, Victor Is About to Get a Whole Lot Sexier in Season 2
Love, Victor, the highly-anticipated sequel TV series to 2018's beloved gay teen rom-com Love, Simon, immediately won over fans for it's relatable and family-friendly portrayal of a high schooler's struggle to come out to his friends and family.
While the show was originally planned to be released on the Disney+ streaming platform, after some-last minute concerns (Deadline speculated that Disney heads thought it "may not be appropriate for families to watch with their young kids"), it was moved over to Hulu—after production on the first season had already ended.
But with a new season of Love, Victor coming in the future, is the show about to get a lot sexier and edgier? Well, according to the series' showrunner, it just might be!
In a recent interview with TVLine, before the news of Love, Victor's season 2 renewal was announced, showrunner Brian Tanen talked about his hopes for a second season, and what the potential tone of the show would be since they would be creating it with Hulu's older audiences in mind.
"For me, it’s a gigantic win that we are on Hulu moving forward. It opens our ability to tell more adult stories," Tanen said. "One of the biggest critiques of representation of gay people in media is that we are sometimes neutered, which is to say we can be the funny sidekick, we can be a sassy best friend, but you rarely see a drama centered on a gay protagonist who has sexual feelings and experiences and gets to be the romantic lead."
He continued:
"Here we have that opportunity, and we’d love to tell sexier stories. That’s going to be so much more exciting on a network like Hulu, which, since they’ve adopted us, have been so supportive of the show and incredible partners."
Now that season 2 is officially confirmed, we can't wait to see what kinds of new stories the Love, Victor team tells, especially since coming out is only one part of the lives of many queer people.
With the current state of the world, though, it'll probably be a while until the second round of Love, Victor actually materializes on our screens and drops on Hulu, so until then, we'll just have to be content with the closest thing we got to a sexy scene in season 1...
Love, Victor is now streaming on Hulu.
