The first season of the UK version of the popular, Emmy-winning reality drag competition RuPaul's Drag Race may have been a big hit with viewers, but thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that is currently affecting millions and millions of lives all over the world, it looks like we won't be getting a follow-up any time soon...
Unfortunately, like so many other pop culture and entertainment titles, season 2 of Drag Race UK (which reportedly already began filming) has been postponed until further notice amidst health concerns surrounding the continuing spread of coronavirus, reports NewNowNext.
"In light of the spread of COVID-19, after much consideration, production on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be temporarily pausing filming both in consultation with and supported by the BBC," a spokesperson from the BBC said in a statement to the Daily Mail. "We will continue to review all productions on a case by case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organisation, and Public Health England."
"There were contestants on set, as well as talent and the production team and it was deemed far too risky," another source close to the series told The Sun. "At the moment the plug has been pulled completely on the show and as it stands, the second series of Drag Race is on hold. It’s awful for everyone involved, people aren’t working and the studios are empty. But obviously the health of everyone on the show comes first."
While it's a bummer that we won't get to see another batch of British queens serve up some fierce lewks on the runway for a while, at least we already have the first season to keep us company while we self isolate during this uncertain times...(BRB, rewatching Andrew Garfield's guest judge appearance on endless loop!!!)
The entire first season of Drag Race UK is available for streaming on VH1.
