The SyFy series, which once prominently featured a bisexual lead character, was just canceled.

The upcoming season 5 finale of SyFy's beloved series The Magicians will, unfortunately, now also be a series finale.

According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, SyFy has chosen not to renew the critically-acclaimed fantasy show (which was adapted from author Lev Grossman's book trilogy of the same name) for a sixth round.

"The Magicians has been a part of our SYFY family for five fantastic seasons," a representative from SyFy told EW in a statement. "As we near the end of this journey, we want to thank John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Lev Grossman, and our entire brilliant cast, crew, writers, and directors for their beautiful creation. But most of all, we thank the fans for their tremendous support and passion. Because of you, magic will be in our hearts forever."

Despite the show being a favorite among fans and critics, The Magicians did find themselves in some controversy last year when the show's bisexual protagonist Quentin Coldwater (played by actor Jason Ralph) was killed off during the finale of the fourth season. LGBTQ+ fans felt betrayed, especially since he was a bisexual magician who suffered from depression, and queer people who suffer from mental illnesses are hardly, if ever, represented on-screen, and many felt his death was just another awful example of the Bury Your Gays trope

Still, despite the controversy, The Magicians fans took to social media to let their feelings out and celebrate the show's five-season run.

The last episodes of The Magicians are currently airing Wednesday nights on SyFy
