Who's ready for more Creekwood High drama?
Last April, Disney+ announced the production of a spinoff on the beloved gay teen rom-com Love, Simon, and under a year later, we have a premiere date!
Re-titled Love, Victor, the half-hour comedy will follow Michael Cimino as Victor, the new kid in town "on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation."
According to Deadline, the show just wrapped production on the ten episodes that make up season one and has already hired a writers' room for a second season.
"I can’t tell you how much I adore this funny, romantic, heartfelt gem of a show," Becky Albertalli, the writer of the original novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, shared on Instagram. "I’m so grateful to the cast, production team, and execs who have been so passionate about this story from day one."
The series was originally announced to premiere on recently launched streaming platform Disney+, but is now set to premiere on Hulu during Pride Month this June.
Deadline notes that the show "depicts alcohol use, parents’ marital issues, and sexual exploration," which might be the reason why it was moved from Disney + to Hulu, citing that the show "may not be appropriate for families to watch with their young kids, something that has become imperative for a Disney+ program."
Some fans aren't too happy about the switch, citing the streaming service's dearth of LGBTQ+ content and recent offloading onto other platforms or into cancellation, as is the case with Zoe Kravitz led drama High Fidelity that was also moved to Hulu and the canned sitcom Four Dads.
Regardless, we're excited to see more from Creekwood High and maybe we'll even get some cameos from our favorite stars from the movie? Keiynan Lonsdale, I'm looking at you!
