Sorry The Boys Fans, Jensen Ackles Won't Be Having Gay Sex in S3
An epic season of Amazon's The Boys concluded last Friday and fans are already scrambling for more, along with answers on the episode's biggest cliffhangers.
While we'll have to wait a while for more from the hit series, we know that Season 3 is already in pre-production and we have a few scraps of casting news. Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will appear as Soldier Boy, the original Vought superhero, in the upcoming season.
This is not your average superhero show. The satirical series posits these "heroes" in our current reality as celebrities, images carefully curated to sell merchandise and brand deals. That, juxtaposed with their oversized egos and crippling insecurities, makes The Boys and undeniable joy to watch.
Fans who read the comics know that Homelander and Soldier Boy appear in an "infamous" scene where the two hook up. According to ScreenRant, "Soldier Boy is an innocent and bumbling hero who looks to join the Seven. In fact, he's so desperate to join the famous super-team that he has sex with their leader Homelander, thinking it's something of an audition."
Showrunner Eric Kripke informed fans during a Q&A that the scene isn't making it into season three. "There isn't going to be a Soldier Boy/Homelander having sex scene," Kripke revealed, instead promising "There will be a Herogasm in season 3. You've earned it, you deserve it, and you're gonna get it."
“@therealKripke @XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Q: #AskTheBoys Soldier Boy? Please tell us there will be a scene a la “Herogasm” from the comic!
- @Welshmen

A:”— Eric Kripke (@Eric Kripke) 1602466004
While the idea of seeing Ackles in a gay sex scene might've been fun in theory (especially so for long-time fans of Supernatural), the actual comic scene isn't exactly a positive representation. Homelander takes advantage of Soldier Boy's naivety for his personal gain.
Who knows who or what said herogasm will involve, but if the surprise is half as entertaining as any of the surprises from season two, we're sure we'll be thrilled!
