Gay Fire Island Pride and Prejudice-Inspired Series Coming to Quibi
Make everything gay.
With so many remakes constantly going down, particularly of works in the public domain, the only good reason for adding another one to the pile is if you’re going to make it gay.
Fortunately, Joel Kim Booster’s upcoming Pride and Prejudice-inspired adaptation Trip is doing just that.
The romantic comedy was announced yesterday via Deadline, a story that “centers around two best friends who set out to have a legendary week-long summer vacation with the help of cheap rosé and a cadre of eclectic friends.”
“For the last couple of years I’ve been threatening to pitch a gay Pride and Prejudice adaptation that takes place entirely on Fire Island and I finally found a platform foolish enough to do it!!” Booster tweeted yesterday.
He added: “I’m just laying the ground work for my real passion project: Persuasion, set on an [Atlantis] Cruise.”
It didn’t take long for Twitter users desperate for a gayer Jane Austen to add their own thoughts on the project.
“@ihatejoelkim Congrats Joel! Without making this about me, I’d like to play Keira Knightley’s Pomeranian who has to stay in the trailer most of the day.”— Joel Kim Booster (@Joel Kim Booster) 1569423303
“@samcorb You know she will be wearing a “Boot Edge Edge” shirt in the pool.”— Joel Kim Booster (@Joel Kim Booster) 1569423303
“@ihatejoelkim I’d like to audition for the “Keeps-their-shirt-on/ Stands-by-the-BBQ” Gay.”— Joel Kim Booster (@Joel Kim Booster) 1569423303
“@ihatejoelkim From this tweet alone, I can hear your characters complaining about whoever Darcy is and it's _so good_. Congrats!”— Joel Kim Booster (@Joel Kim Booster) 1569423303
Trip will premiere on Quibi, that weird upcoming streaming service that keeps announcing projects such as the haunted house flipping show and the one where Chrissy Teigen and her mom run a Judge Judy-esque court room.
Rachel Kiley is presumably a writer and definitely not a terminator. She can usually be found crying over queerbaiting in the Pitch Perfect franchise or on Twitter, if not both.
