Netflix's newest teen drama The Society takes a sharp dystopian turn when a group of high schoolers are mysteriously deserted in their small New England town. Things get very Lord of the Flies as the kids fight, steal, and scramble to keep order—and the situation quickly derails.
But all the insanity doesn't stop teenage hormones—or love—from bubbling up to the surface, and we see that with Sam and Grizz, a subtly revolutionary romance that is captivating fans of the series.
It's striking to watch the other kids casually interact with Sam in American Sign Language. Played by deaf actor Sean Berdy, some of the cast and crew really learned ASL to speak with him on- and off-camera.
Sam gets closer and closer to Grizz over the course of the season and slowly begins teaching him sign language. The tension between the two comes to a head in one squeal-worthy scene.
The two are alone in the dark and Grizz cautiously asks Sam a question. "Can you teach me one more phrase in sign language?" Sam nods and leans in as Grizz nearly whispers, "How do you say kiss me?"
My gay heart!
