Netflix has released the trailer and release date for the second season of their controversial teen series, 13 Reasons Why.
The show tells the story of a high school student named Hannah (Katherine Langford), who leaves behind tapes to explain to her friend Clay and the rest of their classmates why she committed suicide.
The season 2 logline promises: “A series of ominous Polaroids lead Clay and his classmates to uncover a sickening secret and a conspiracy to cover it up," and the trailer explains that the tapes are just the beginning of the story.
Many have taken issue with the series, which is executive produced by Selena Gomez, accusing it of glorifying and romanticizing teen suicide.
In response to the backlash, the show has decided this season to have different cast members appear before each episode to warn of the kind of content to come. Netflix has also implemented an aftershow, where the actors will converse with mental health professionals and educators about the issues in the program. More is available at 13reasonswhy.info.
