RuPaul's Drag Race More Popular Than Game of Thrones on Reddit
Reddit has come out with a round up of the most popular discussions on their site for 2018 and announced Game of Thrones has been dethroned as the most popular TV show for the first time since 2011.
Its replacement? RuPaul’s Drag Race.
The RPDR subreddit garnered 8.8 million unique visitors over the course of the year, with r/GameofThrones trailing notably at 7.7 million. None of the runners-up even broke six million, with The Bachelor being the eighth and final show the Reddit list even bothered to note, clocking in at just 2.3 million uniques.
To be somewhat fair, Game of Thrones had no new season this year and RuPaul’s Drag Race has aired two full seasons so far (All Stars 3 and season 10) with one still to come (All Stars 4), not to mention the Christmas special.
But toppling the HBO powerhouse is still no easy feat, especially on a platform that’s known for skewing straight, white, and male. Compare that to RPDR’s primary demo of gay men and straight women and it’s easy to see that taking the lead on this one is quite an accomplishment.
Reddit does predict that Thrones will return for its crown when the new season airs in 2019, but until then…
