Media representation matters. Some people have already figured this out, but many, including most media producers, have not. In a YouTube video entitled, "Trans Gamers Talk About Their Favorite Characters," we get a glimpse at how important said representation is, and how awesome it is for people to be able to choose, control, and observe video game characters that they feel represent them.

While there isn't a plethora of trans characters to choose from, having the ability to choose a female-identifying character and/or a non-gender specific character in this day and age is still quite special, especially for people who are oppressed by gender norms. White cis men still dominate main character roles, despite the fact that the gaming community is incredibly diverse not only in terms of gender but also in terms of race and age.

Are you a gamer? Were any of your characters mentioned below? Who are some of your favorites? Watch the video about trans gamers talking about their favorite video game characters below and let us know in the comments and on Twitter if there were any characters—from video games or other media—who really affected you!
