The Wachowskis Are Selling Matrix & Sense8 Memorabilia to Raise Money for Trans Charities
The Wachowskis are without a doubt two of the most influential trans filmmakers right now, and they’re putting some of that success to good use by auctioning off items to raise money for trans-related charities.
Lilly tweeted over the weekend that she and her sister had been “doing some spring clearning at our Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse and have happily decided to pass on some of the best treasures we’ve been collecting over the years!!”
\u201calso many very reasonable items for a variety of budgets! everything must go!!!!!\nhttps://t.co/0WcA9aJnmc\u201d— Lilly Wachowski (@Lilly Wachowski) 1650731329
From there, she linked to an auction titled “Enter the Matrix: The Wachowski Collection,” which boasts eight pages of memorabilia from their films. The Matrix films, Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending, and the cult favorite Netflix show Sense8 are all represented through an eclectic offering of props, costumes, concept art, and more. Some of the Wachowskis’ awards and other personal items also appear to be up for sale.
Although price tags vary, at the moment, the most expensive item up for grabs is Cypher’s lightning rifle prop from The Matrix itself. The current bid comes in at a whopping $17,000.
Lilly further informed her fanbase that ALL of the proceeds from the auction will be going to the Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund, a donation page set up by Ariana Grande last month in response to all the anti-trans legislation up for voting across the United States.
The money will ultimately be divided up between a number of trans organizations listed on the website, including Equality Florida, Transgender Education Network of Texas, and Black Trans Advocacy Coalition. Ariana has promised to match donations up to $1.5 million, and the page has raised nearly $800,000 so far.
And the Wachowskis’ auction is already looking to add a good chunk of change to that number, so if you’ve ever thought to yourself, “Gosh, I sure wish I could own a pair of those latex ears Channing Tatum wore in Jupiter Ascending,” you better get in a bid while you still can! Absentee bids are being accepted now, and the live auction takes place on May 12.
