The federal judge presiding over Juliet's case in Pennsylvania just made a move to #ProtectTransKids and noted trans communities have a fighting chance at gaining protection under the Fourteenth Amendment.

Yesterday afternoon at a federal court in Pennsylvania, Juliet Evancho—Trump inauguration performer Jackie Evancho's sister—and two of her classmates were granted use of the bathroom that matches their gender identity, according to BuzzFeed.

The case won't decide the treatment of transgender students or transgender adults in other parts of the country, but U.S. Discrtict Court Judge Mark R. Hornak did provide in his opinion a hopeful note about Gavin Grimm's upcoming SCOTUS case in March.

"The Plaintiffs appear to the Court to be young people seeking to do what young people try to do every day—go to school, obtain an education, and interact as equals with their peers. … [T]he Plaintiffs have shown a reasonable likelihood of success on the merits of their claim that the District’s enforcement of Resolution 2 as to their use of common school restrooms does not afford them equal protection of the law as guaranteed to them by the Fourteenth Amendment."

We're incredibly happy for Juliet and her classmates, and we hope Hornak's right about their chances of success in March. In the meantime, check out this super helpful article from Katie Dupere on how you can be an active ally to trans people, starting right now.
