THE Spot: A Grand Opening Every Week

Night-crawling New Yorkers are always in search of the new and the fabulous. In the city that never sleeps, there can seem to be limitless options.  The side effect of so many options is what I like to call “clubber ADD.” Savvy Manhattanites never miss a grand opening, but after a few visits to a new hot spot, they retreat to their smartphones, thirsty for the next new party.

The team behind the current Friday night party, which includes myself, seems to have mastered the art of enthralling the short attention span–addled New York partying elite—at least for now. Zoo Fridays is a roving dance safari replete with wild animal club kids and ferocious and muscled go-go dancers. To party with these animals each week, you must be on the list, of course; the text-to-receive location list, that is.

Zoo delivers an unrelenting visual spectacle, reminiscent of the clubbing heyday in the 1980s and ’90s. Performers in elaborate animal costumes dangle from the ceiling and hold court across the dance floor. The diverse crowd of beautiful and fit gentlemen partake in the weekly animal themes, shedding their cares and embracing the moment.

Started in May of this year, Zoo has taken over Broadway theaters, rooftops, and some of Manhattan’s trendiest clubs. The party attracts nightlife legends like Amanda Lepore and Kenny Kenny, and a veritable who’s who of NYC club kids oversee the party’s creative creatures each week.
