Iconic.

A once in a lifetime opportunity has presented itself — Whoopi Goldberg is going to be reprising her iconic role as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act the Musical.

In other words, pack your bags, queers. We’re going to London!

If you’re still working on your LGBTQ education, Sister Act originated as a 1992 movie about a lounge singer (Goldberg) who joins a convent to hide from the mob after she witnesses a murder. It’s full of music, sparkles, and sassy older women — basically a gay wet dream. It spawned an equally iconic sequel starring Lauryn Hill, and eventually, the stage musical.

Now, after all this time, Goldberg will be joining the cast of the London production of the show for a limited run. It was previously announced that this would be a reworked version of the familiar musical, featuring an older version of Deloris. And now we know why.

As if having Whoopi reprise her role wasn’t wonderful enough, this limited run will also feature Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders as Mother Superior.

“I would buy tickets. I can’t buy tickets because I’m in it,” Saunders joked. “But I think this could be the event of the century, that’s all I’m saying. Small thing. But the event.”

She’s probably not wrong!!

It isn’t the first time Goldberg has joined Sister Act the Musical — she had a brief engagement as the Mother Superior herself on the West End in 2010 — but this will be the first time she’s returning to the role she originated.

And we’ve only got a short time to catch her in the act. She’ll be gracing the stage from July 29 to August 30, and tickets are on sale now.
