MTV's very own Faking it stars Rita Volk and Michael Willett stopped by GLAAD’s office to talk bisexuality, LGBT representation, and future show romances. The hit TV show has been lauded by LGBT organizations with the diverse representation of sexualities and the groundbreaking intersex character.
“I think we’re at a point where it’s time to take on more stories,” Willett said about the storylines. “Things have come kind of cliché in terms of storytelling and I think it’s time to turn the camera on people who haven’t had their stories told. Plain and simple.” Willett’s character Shane is about to get into another romance, having dumped his celibate boyfriend at the beginning of season 2. Shane is expected to be dating a hot new boy toy who’s still in the closet.
Volk's character, Amy, has been the focal point of the show stuck in a twisted love triangle with her best friend and her best friend’s crush. Amy has been crushing on her best friend, while showing interest in other girls, as well as other boys. When asked if Amy was bisexual, Volk said: “She very well could be. I think that’s one of the things we talked about in the beginning was putting that label on somebody. That’s one of the things I learned through this whole process by listening to people’s coming out stories and that journey they went through. You don’t decide overnight. She’s confused and she says that. She says ‘I’m confused’. And that’s ok. And that’s the label. Being confused is a totally ok label to have.”
