This season of Pretty Little Liars is just so fraught with bad news that it’s tough to watch. We love to see the Liars just a little bit happy, so here’s a clip of tonight’s episode in which Emily’s mama Pam delivers some good news about possible treatment for Em’s shoulder. Does this mean she’ll be back in the water and headed to Stanford with her lesbian love Paige? We can only hope.

Pretty Little Liars’ Paige McCullers appears to have come full circle from the awkward, closeted bully who alternately tormented and fell for the show’s resident gay character Emily (Shay Mitchell). In the deft hands of actress Lindsey Shaw, Paige has grown into a nuanced, out and proud teen who’s sporting one hell of a hot wardrobe this season. And if that weren’t enough Paige and Emily are ON – at least for now.

Attention Pretty Little Liars fans: Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) lady friend Maya (Bianca Lawson) has spilled some news – both good and bad – about what is in store for Rosewood’s token lesbian couple.

Marja Lewis Ryan is not your average filmmaker. Not only did she write the The Four-Faced Liar- one of the most prominent LGBT films making festival rounds this year- she also co-starred and co-produced it. Although she was a theater major at NYU, Marja’s transition into film has proved a fantastic and inspiring success story. Tonight marks the Summer Season Finale of ABC Family’s guilty pleasure Pretty Little Liars. Last season’s finale revealed A to be Hanna’s BFF Mona (Mon-A?), but with a title like “The BetrAyal,” this finale will prove to be just as intriguing. It seems that this season’s new A is more than just a copycat, and could be part of a black-hooded group of masterminds -- an “A Team,” if you will. With the teasers promising the “ultimate betrayal,” Shewired has its own specul-A-tions. And yes, we are having too good of a time with the whole A thing.

These days you can’t swing a cat on television without hitting a scattered LGBT character or two on just about any given night. Sundays give us The Good Wife’s bisexual Kalinda while Revenge has bisexual Nolan and Shameless has a gay son. Modern Family and The New Normal offer up gay dads while freshman series Go On and Chicago Fire feature full-on lesbian characters in those ensembles. And of course, there are tried-and-true, beloved lesbian and gay characters on Glee, Grey’s Anatomy and Pretty Little Liars.

Pretty Little Liars fans are chomping at the bit to find out what happens next in not-so-sleepy Rosewood. Thankfully the producers of ABC Family’s breakout guilty pleasure have begun a yearly Halloween episode tradition that gives us fix between the summer and winter seasons but it’s still a long holiday season until the fantastic four is back in action this January 8. Here’s the promo pic of Emily (Shay Mitchell), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Aria (Lucy Hale). For good measure we threw in a bonus solo shot of Emily the lady magnet lesbian of Rosewood.

Pretty Little Liars’ fourth season is full of new friendships and surprises, and this week Emily (Shay Mitchell) gets some advice from Mr. Fitz (Ian Harding) about staying true to herself. Dismayed and interminably sad because she can’t swim, Emily’s pretty much shot down any chance of getting into a good school, but Mr. Fitz won’t hear of it as he encourages her to apply to a small college that accepts relatively few students a year. I really hope Emily’s thinking of applying to my alma mater – Mount Holyoke College. I’d love to see her arguing the finer points of Zora Neale Hurston and frolicking on the green in spring like the lesbians did in my day.

This may be our favorite example of our worlds colliding in a while!
