Director Lynn Shelton’s Your Sister’s Sister, a big hit at Sundance that costars Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt and features a lesbian character hits theaters this summer. Shelton recently chatted with out about how being a “shy bisexual” has informed her filmmaking to a degree. Shelton previously directed 2009’s Humpday, which Out describes as “homosexy” about two male friends trying to get it on.

The death of astronaut Sally Ride this week and the revelation that she was in a long-term lesbian relationship have allies, including her sister, highlighting the discrimination that same-sex couples face, and prompting discussion about what it’s like to be gay in the space program. Bear Ride, herself a lesbian, appeared on Current TV’s The Young Turks With Cenk Uygur Tuesday to note how the Defense of Marriage Act denies benefits to gay couples. She added that Ride and her partner, Tam O’Shaughnessy, had a California domestic partnership and “were in something of a privileged position” when it came to taking care of each other legally.

Well, life is certainly interesting. There are still 1,138 federal rights denied to most of us within the United States of America because we, as lesbian and gay citizens, are not allowed to commit to our partners in marriage, but polygamy in Utah is completely acceptable. This is according to the new TLC show Sister Wives.
