A 16-year-old all girls school student was all dressed up with nowhere to go on prom night — Hannah Williams’s teacher at Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar in Melbourne had told the student weeks before that she couldn't attend the dance with her then 15-year-old girlfriend. The story is similar to that of Constance McMillen, the 18-year-old lesbian Mississippi high-schooler who was banned from attending prom with her girlfriend earlier this year.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard dined with two lesbian couples and a pair of gay men on Tuesday. She told them marriage equality would assuredly happen in the country, but she remains opposed to changing the law.

Pennsylvania state Sen. Daylin Leach introduced legislation to legalize marriage for gay and lesbian couples. He announced on Good Day Philadelphia that he has scheduled a press conference for Wednesday afternoon in order to increase support for the bill. 

Two lesbian police officers in Baltimore, Md. were awarded the right to extend their health benefits to their spouses Tuesday after initially being denied those benefits by the county. An independent arbiter ruled that veteran officers Margaret Selby and Juanika Ballard must be granted health benefits for their respective wives. Each of the officers married their spouses in different states during the summer of 2009.

On November 6, Maryland voters made history by becoming one of the first in the nation's history to affirm marriage equality at the ballot box. Throughout the evening's election returns, Maryland's Question 6 maintained a strong lead, but the final tally saw Marylanders uphold the state's marriage equality law with 57.9% of the vote in favor, 42.1% opposed.
