Television Jamaica Rejects Gay PSA

Television Jamaica (TVJ), a major station on the Caribbean island, has declined to carry a paid PSA from the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-sexuals and Gays (J-Flag) that encourages acceptance of LGBT family members and friends. The PSA features former Miss Jamaica World and Miss Jamaica Universe Christine Straw with her gay brother Matthew Straw in a pitch for Jamaicans to show "unconditional love" to LGBT family members and friends.

Rejected Lesbian High Schooler Speaks

Kelsey Hicks lives with her girlfriend and her girlfriend's 2-year-old child. She said that because she holds down two jobs and shares child-rearing responsibilities, she decided to enroll in night school to complete her high school education but didn't feel safe there. Hicks decided to return to regular day school at Del City High, but when she approached John Benardello, the principal in charge of the senior class, she said he only put her down and said she should drop out due to her "unhealthy lifestyle." She was then told she could not return to school during the day.

Archdiocese Defends School's Rejection of Children Because of Lesbian Parents

The archbishop of Denver, Colorado defended a decision by a Boulder Catholic school not to re-enroll two children because their parents are lesbians. "The Church does not claim that people with a homosexual orientation are 'bad,'" wrote Archbishop Charles J.
