GLAAD Loses Six Board Members in Wake of Barrios Resignation

With Jarrett Barrios out as president, six members of the board have resigned from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. The reasons for their departure aren’t clear. But Barrios resigned under criticism for writing a letter to the Federal Communications Commission in support of a merger between AT&T and T-Mobile, claiming it was in the interest of gay people. AT&T had donated $50,000 to GLAAD.

Teachers Union Calls For New York Marriage Equality

The United Federation of Teachers, which claims more than 200,000 members, is calling for the passage of marriage equality legislation before the legislative session ends in the next few weeks. UFT joins other labor organizations that support the marriage equality bill including 32BJ, Communications Workers of America District 1, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, Teamsters Local 237, Affiliates of the New York City Central Labor Council, and 1199 SEIU.
