A sobering new exposé from the Center for Investigative Reporting reveals that at least two California prisons have been performing tubal litigations — a sterilization procedure — on inmates who give birth in state custody.

By now you’ve heard of Alcatraz, the J.J. Abrams sci-fi TV thriller whose main conceit is that instead of being reassigned to different prisons when the brutal prison located on a rock outside San Francisco closed, all 63 inmates and prison personnel vanished on March 21, 1963. And best of all, lesbian actress Geri Jewell who is beloved from Facts of Life and was brilliant on Deadwood. She appeared first in Monday’s episode of Alcatraz as Geri Tiller, the cougarish sister of warden Tiller.

They might be jailbirds, but hell they can sing

Two lesbian inmates have tied the knot in what could be the UK's first lesbian prison wedding. Although the incarcerated couple married last month, the news only surface Tuesday that murderer Sara Crane and drug dealer Joanne Davies, both 31, got permission from the jail governor to hold a secret ceremony. According to The Sun, Crane told another inmate: "It was the perfect day."

A federal court in Wisconsin Friday overturned a state law barring access to hormone therapy for transgender inmates. Three male-to-female transgender inmates, each diagnosed with gender identity disorder, challenged the law in 2006.

News has traveled around the world about Lindsay Lohan’s 90-day jail sentence in relation to her 2007 DUI. Now conservative Fox News has picked up a story originating from a UK tabloid The Sun that Lohan can expect a welcoming party from lesbian gangs at the Los Angeles jail. An inmate in for heroin possession and prostitution, noted that “everyone will want a piece of her.” Adding that “it will make them famous if they hurt Lindsay Lohan. Or if you get her to cry, the whole ward will laugh and people will love it – even the guards.”

Fans of the British women in prison series Bad Girls, which ran from 1999 to 2006, will either jump for joy or balk at the news that NBC has been tapped to produce the pilot for an American version of the series. While an incredibly well rounded series in general, the British series especially resonated for lesbian viewers with its honest and thoughtful depiction of the lesbian couple Nikki (Mandana Jones) and Helen (Simone Lahbib) long before there was a slight proliferation of lesbian characters on television.
