Portia de Rossi has filed a petition to legally change her name to Portia Lee James DeGeneres, to take the name of her spouse, Ellen DeGeneres. This isn’t the first time the actress has petitioned to have her name changed. The actress was born Amanda Lee Rogers.
'It's just simply a civil rights issue,' so says out lesbian Portia de Rossi on Friday's The View. There to promote the second season of her ABC sitcom Better Off Ted, de Rossi spent the bulk of her time there discussing the importance of marriage equality with hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd.

Portia de Rossi appears on Monday’s Oprah to promote her new book, Unbearable Lightness, saying the pressure to stay closeted in Hollywood is one of the many reasons she became obsessed with losing weight. “1997, Ellen came out, and I watched that like I’m sure a lot of gay people did, but especially gay actresses at that time,” de Rossi tells Oprah. “If she went down, there’s no way in hell I can come out.”
