State Police in Jackson County, Ky. have charged 18-year-olds Corinne Schwab, Ashley Sams (pictured above) and an unnamed 17-year-old girl with kidnapping and criminal attempt to commit murder of a lesbian classmate. The investigators say the three teens were supposed to be taking their lesbian classmate Cheyenne Williams to a job interview.

The Murder of the South African lesbian activist, who was stoned and stabbed to death, is part of an epidemic of hate crimes, according to Human Rights Watch. Noxolo Nogwaza was murdered in Kwa Thema Township outside Johannesburg on April 24, according to AFP. She was a member of the gay rights group the Ekurhuleni Pride Organizing Committee.

Cynthia Nicole, a leading Honduras transgender rights defender, was murdered on January 9, 2009 in Barrio Guaserique in Comayaguela, a town just outside the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa.  The most recent attack in a rash of murders against transgender people.

David Kato, a prominent gay activist threatened with hanging on the front page of a Ugandan newspaper, was brutally beaten to death at his home in Kampala on Wednesday. Kato was the advocacy officer for Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), which confirmed his murder in a news release.
