Facebook Removes Antigay Speech from Suicide Memorial Page

GLAAD reports that it has worked successfully with Facebook to remove antigay hate speech from a page that commemorates recent gay youth suicides and calls for a day of remembrance this month. According to GLAAD, which contacted Facebook last week after receiving more than 1,800 complaints, the social networking giant agreed to monitor the page closely for violations in terms of service. As of Wednesday, new measures have been adopted to respond more quickly to hate speech and to monitor activity.

Historians claim a lesbian kiss would distort history because lesbians were not targeted for persecution in the Holocaust.

Indiana's Ball Memorial Hospital Responds After Refusing to Treat a Trans Woman

Administrators of an Indiana hospital involved in a discrimination complaint say the hospital plans to remedy problems incurred by a transgender woman who entered the hospital seeking treatment, but was ridiculed and turned away in July. Erin Vaught went to the hospital on July 18, but when she tried to submit her information for hospital records, two workers entered her gender as male, despite her identification saying she is female.

Central Indiana�s Ball Memorial Hospital Denies Care to Transgender Woman

Trans woman Erin Vaught entered Ball Memorial Hospital in East Central Indiana on July 18, 2010 and was instantly met with discrimination. Upon checking in with her wife and son at the admissions desk, Vaught was ridiculed and disrespected for being transgender. She showed her identification card to the workers, but was entered into the system as “male” instead of “female” even though her ID stated otherwise. When she pushed the issue, they flat-out denied changing the entry in the system.
