Nearly two years after their daughter's disappearance and subsequent death, the parents of Mitrice Richardson have reached a tentative agreement to settle their lawsuits against the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for $900,000. Richardson's parents and many others have criticized the sheriff's department for its handling of the case. Richardson (pictured), a lesbian who was 24 at the time, went missing in September 2009 after being released by the sheriff's Malibu station in the middle of the night without her car, cell phone, or purse.

Mitrice Richardson's Mother Sues LA County Sheriff's Department

The mother of a lesbian who went missing last year filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles County and the Sheriff's Department Tuesday. Mitrice Richardson was seen last Sept. 7 when she was arrested in Malibu, Calif., for her inability to pay a $90 bill at a restaurant. Richardson was released from a sheriff's station early in the morning after exhibiting strange behavior in her jail cell the previous night.

Mitrice Richardson's Remains Exhumed

Following accusations of ineptitude by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the remains of 24-year-old Mitrice Richardson were exhumed from an Inglewood, Calif. cemetery on Wednesday morning. Richardson, a former beauty pageant contestant and a lesbian who graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a 4.0 GPA went missing in September 2009 after being released from the L.A. County Sheriff's Malibu station in the middle of the night without her car, cell phone, or purse.

Lesbian and Friend Beaten to Pulp by a Dozen People at Alabama Bar: Video

A 25-year-old lesbian, Laura Gilbert, and her friend Sheila Siddall allege that they were beaten up by about a dozen people at the Villa bar in Opelika, Ala. based on Gilbert’s sexual orientation. Siddall called 911 but when the police arrived they only arrested Gilbert, although Sheriff Jay Jones admits that Gilbert and Siddall were the only ones who sustained visible injuries. He also said that if a hate crime had occurred it would have been treated as such. However, Alabama’s hate crime laws do not include protections for sexual orientation.

They had been together for three years. An autopsy determined that Bright had been killed April 20 or 21.
