Lesbian Sailors Make History with the Navy's First Same-Sex 'First Kiss'

Thanks to the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” a lesbian couple of sailors became the first same-sex couple to share what’s called the “first kiss” on the dock when one of the women returned from 80 days at sea. Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta, 22, and Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell, 23, were chosen to share the “first kiss” once Gaeta returned from sea on the USS Oak Hill. The couple engaged in a quick kiss to the sound of a cheering crowd that was also waving flags.

A Black Female Priest, the Episcopal Church and Cambridge's Lesbian Mayor Make History

Since the liberal arm of the U.S. Episcopal Church passed a resolution in July to bless same-sex unions, particularly in states like Massachusetts that legalize such marriages, so too has, at least, one black congregation within the Massachusetts diocese. On August 30th St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Cambridge housed the marriage and blessed the union of its mayor E. Denise Simmons and her lifetime partner, Ms. Mattie Hayes.

Lesbian Couple Makes History - First Same-Sex Spouse Issued Green Card in Colorado

A family of five in Colorado just made history! Cathy Davis became the first same-sex spouse to become a lawful permanent resident of the United States through a marriage-based green card. Davis and her wife, Catronia, have three children. Their immigration interview took place in January and, according to DOMAProject.org, "could have been denied on the spot because of DOMA, the USCIS officer agreed that their case would have been approved that day if they were an opposite-sex couple and she put the case on hold at the request of their attorney, DOMA Project cofounder, Lavi Soloway."

Historians claim a lesbian kiss would distort history because lesbians were not targeted for persecution in the Holocaust.
