We all love reasons to watch lesbian films right? If you're anything like me, then you will enjoy traveling through the decades of lesbian cinema from the 60's to now.

Lambda Legal board member Laura Ricketts made a bit of history this past weekend when she was announced as the first ever openly gay Major League Baseball owner. The Ricketts family purchased the Chicago Cubs earlier this year for a reported $845 million and officially took the
helm last week.

Actors Brooke Vincent and Sacha Parkinson made history with the first-ever lesbian kiss for British prime time soap "Coronation Street." A unique moment as "Corrie," as it's affectionately called, is now in its 50th year and this is the first lesbian story line to hit the Street.

Miss Long Beach and Miss Southern California cities pageant contestant Jenelle Hutcherson was the first openly lesbian participant in the pageant’s history, and she may not have won the title Sunday but she sure broke down boundaries just by her presence.

This is how all history should be taught.

Thanks to the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” a lesbian couple of sailors became the first same-sex couple to share what’s called the “first kiss” on the dock when one of the women returned from 80 days at sea. Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta, 22, and Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell, 23, were chosen to share the “first kiss” once Gaeta returned from sea on the USS Oak Hill. The couple engaged in a quick kiss to the sound of a cheering crowd that was also waving flags.

Since the liberal arm of the U.S. Episcopal Church passed a resolution in July to bless same-sex unions, particularly in states like Massachusetts that legalize such marriages, so too has, at least, one black congregation within the Massachusetts diocese. On August 30th St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Cambridge housed the marriage and blessed the union of its mayor E. Denise Simmons and her lifetime partner, Ms. Mattie Hayes.

Out trainer Jackie Warner and honorary lesbian Gina Gershon appeared on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live on Bravo to engage in a quiz on Great Lesbians Throughout History.

A family of five in Colorado just made history! Cathy Davis became the first same-sex spouse to become a lawful permanent resident of the United States through a marriage-based green card. Davis and her wife, Catronia, have three children. Their immigration interview took place in January and, according to DOMAProject.org, "could have been denied on the spot because of DOMA, the USCIS officer agreed that their case would have been approved that day if they were an opposite-sex couple and she put the case on hold at the request of their attorney, DOMA Project cofounder, Lavi Soloway."

Possibly placing an image of two lesbian women kissing at a gay Holocaust memorial in Berlin is drawing protest from some scholars, saying it would distort history. The original idea was to exchange the image of kissing men with kissing women every two years. Historians claim a lesbian kiss would distort history because lesbians were not targeted for persecution in the Holocaust. 

Mollie Thomas became one of two out lesbians to make history by entering the Miss California pageant this past weekend.

For the first time in American history, openly gay and lesbian service members were allowed to attend the Commander-in-Chief's Inaugural Ball with their same-sex partners.

The musical Lesbian Love Octagon is set in the 1990s—“a righteous time in lesbian history,” reads the program. But the average lezzie probably couldn’t tell whether this was then or now, considering the dependable dyke drama that, to this day, still continually rears its faux-hawked head in our community.
