For nearly half a century many a thirsty lesbian, including the likes of Ellen DeGeneres and Melissa Etheridge, wet her whistle at the hole-in-the-wall at 8572 Santa Monica Blvd.

The Egyptian Club, Portland's only lesbian bar, will close its doors for good October 9 due to financial difficulties. Owner Kim Davis expressed her dismay, telling the newspaper Just Out, "I don't want to do this, I really don't. [Running this club is] the biggest thing I've ever done in my life and the coolest."
