The LA Gay and Lesbian Center Gala in Photos: Lily Tomlin, Jane Lynch, Kathy Griffin

Over 1,000 people attended the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center’s 39th Anniversary Gala and Auction on Nov. 13 in Century City this past weekend. Three iconic funny ladies - Kathy Griffin, Jane Lynch and Lily Tomlin - took the stage to make the gala, making for a very entertaining evening. The evening’s highlights included Tomlin performing as switchboard operator Ernestine, speeches by Glee’s Ryan Murphy and Matthew Morrison, who presented Jane Lynch with the Center’s Rand Schrader Distinguished Achievement Award, Julie Brown’s musical sendup of Madonna’s “Vogue,” and a speech by Center CEO Lorri L. Jean, who announced plans to work with L.A. schools to make life better for LGBT youth by putting a stop to bullying and harassment.

Gay Media's Southern Voice and Washington Blade Close Doors

Employees of the gay newspaper Southern Voice arrived at the publication's office Monday to find the doors locked and a sign posted saying the magazine was no longer in business. Window Media LLC, based in Washington, D.C., is the country's largest gay and lesbian newspaper publisher. The company also owns the Washington Blade, Genre Magazine, South Florida Blade and a handful of other gay publications.

GLAAD Hancock Park: Top Chef Invasion Photos

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) hosted its annual star-studded, food-themed event GLAAD Hancock: Top Chef Invasion on July 29. The event featured a Top Chef style challenge, tasting stations from several Los Angeles-based restaurants and caterers, entertainment, and a food and wine-themed silent auction.

Rihanna Gets Her Lilith Fair On!

Rihanna continues to bounce back from last year's bad press with the news that the chart topper join Lilith Fair, the all-female music festival begun in the '90s by Sarah McLachlan. In the middle of her own tour, Rihanna will join the Lilith group at their Salt Lake City stop on July 12. Other performers taking part in Lilith include Mary J. Blige, Emmylou Harris, Kelly Clarkson, Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega, Erykah Badu, Tegan and Sara, and McLachlan.

Peter and Paul of PPM Ask Nom to Stop Poaching Their Song for Hate

The surviving members of the folk trio Peter, Paul, and Mary have sent a cease and desist letter to the National Organization for Marriage, which has been using one if their most iconic songs during its antigay "Summer for Marriage" tour. Kathleen Perrin of the Courage Campaign notified Peter Yarrow that the organization was using the group's recording of the Woody Guthrie song "This Land Is Your Land" during its rallies without permission. Yarrow said NOM's use of the song was "heartbreaking" and that he would contact the organization.
