As voters head to the polls in North Carolina today, turnout is expected to be high, which leaves opponents of Amendment 1, the constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage and other unions, hopeful for an upset victory despite polling that indicates easy passage of the measure.

Lady Gaga continues her record of advocacy for LGBT causes with a video urging support for marriage equality in the four states where marriage-related measures are on the ballot Tuesday, BuzzFeed reports. In the video, released today as part of a social media campaign called The Four 2012, Gaga says, “I just wanted to remind those of you who live in Maine, Minnesota, Washington, or Maryland that you can actually vote for marriage equality on the ballot this year.”

After a final push from candidates hoping to win over the undecided voters, Americans head to the polls. While polls seem to show that Republicans could gain a majority, it will all depend on how people vote once inside the booth. In some areas, Democrats have made so many automated calls that phone lines are jammed.
