Right now there are two famous residents of Plant City, Florida. The first is Joe Niekro, the famed knuckleball pitcher known for his incredible seasons with the Houston Astros. The second is Chelsea Baker, a 13 year-old girl pitcher in an all-boys league who hasn’t lost a sanctioned game in four years.

It's a rare instance of good news out of Florida as same-sex couples began marrying today in Miami-Dade County. Couples statewide can enjoy the freedom to marry starting tomorrow.

This is the first federal judge to find that Florida's ban on same-sex marriage, approved by voters in 2008 as Amendment 2, violates the U.S. Constitution.

A family of five in Colorado just made history! Cathy Davis became the first same-sex spouse to become a lawful permanent resident of the United States through a marriage-based green card. Davis and her wife, Catronia, have three children. Their immigration interview took place in January and, according to DOMAProject.org, "could have been denied on the spot because of DOMA, the USCIS officer agreed that their case would have been approved that day if they were an opposite-sex couple and she put the case on hold at the request of their attorney, DOMA Project cofounder, Lavi Soloway."

Florida's Leon County, home of the state capital, voted 5-2 in favor of a sweeping human rights ordinance that would prevent discrimination and offer more protections for members of the LGTB community.
