Trans Basketball Player Kye Allums Speaks Up: Video

Kye Allums, believed to be the first transgender athlete to play NCAA Division 1 basketball, sat down with the press in advance of making his debut on the court for George Washington University later this month. Coaches for the team talked with NCAA officials, who said that as long as Kye doesn’t take hormones or undergo sex reassignment surgery while playing, he will be allowed to continue. Kye Allums Career Plagued by Injury

Multiple concussions and head injuries were the reason George Washington University guard Kye Allums's season was cut short. Allums, a guard and the first openly transgender man to play on a NCAA Division I women's team, said that he has endured eight concussions in his overall career, suffering three alone this season. While Allums's time at GWU was full of career highs, this season was tough on him.
