A transfusion of blood from a Missouri man infected a Colorado kidney transplant recipient with HIV. According to the CDC, in June of 2008 the Missouri man donated blood, as he had done numerous times before. On his form, he failed to report any HIV risk factors, and his blood tested negative for the disease. Experts say that there is no cause for alarm, as this is very much an isolated incident.

Iconic Lesbian Feminist Poet Adrienne Rich Dies at 82

Esteemed lesbian feminist poet Adrienne Rich has died at age 82. Rich died Tuesday at her home in Santa Cruz, Calif., her son Pablo Conrad told the Los Angeles Times.The cause was complications of rheumatoid arthritis; she had suffered from the disease for many years. Rich came out as a lesbian in the 1970s and had been with her partner, writer Michelle Cliff, since 1976.

Barbara Grier, Lesbian Icon, Dies at 78

Barbara Grier, lesbian publisher, activist and archivist, died Thursday of heart disease. She was 79. When I first met Barbara Grier, I was 19 and knew even then that she was one of the most important lesbian figures I would ever meet. More than 30 years later, after I've interviewed countless other lesbians over the years, Grier still ranks as a mover and shaker of iconic proportions.
