The federal judge who struck down the state's marriage ban 'got it right,' says Kentucky's Democratic attorney general. The state's governor, also a Democrat, disagrees.

Same-sex civil union supporters in Hawaii are “optimistic” that a bill will pass in the state during the upcoming legislative session. Democratic Governor Neil Abercrombie is expected to support the proposal, it is simply a matter of Hawaii state lawmakers passing a bill.

The voters in seven states have chosen candidates for the ballot in November. Among winners are Tea Party favorite Christine O'Donnell, Republican from Delaware senate candidate, New York political new-comer Republican Carl Paladino and Democrat Andrew Cuomo for governor, 40 year veteran Rep. Charlie Rangel from New York. 

Kamala Harris's campaign has declared victory after a narrow race between her and Republican Steve Cooley to become California's next attorney general. According to a press release from campaign spokesperson Ace Smith, "uncounted ballots will only bolster Kamala Harris's lead... the provisional ballots cast on Tuesday will reflect Harris’s victory." Harris has vowed to let Proposition 8 die in a federal appeals court. Cooley had said he would support California’s initiative banning same-sex marriage.

It was a good night, especially for Republican women.

The official outcome of the race may not be declared for weeks, however, as Kamala Harris is 9,000 votes ahead as of Thursday morning, but provisional and absentee ballots are still being counted. New York attorney general Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that he wants to be the governor who makes “equality a reality” in his state. “I don't want to be the governor who just proposes marriage equality. I don't want to be the governor who lobbies for marriage equality. I don't want to be the governor who fights for marriage equality. I want to be the governor who signs the law that makes equality a reality in the state of New York.” Cuomo also took the opportunity to condemn the “extremist” agenda represented by Carl Paladino.

The governor of New Jersey reacted to the Supreme Court's ruling on a radio show.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo delivered his first State of the State address Wednesday and called for the passage of the marriage equality bill in 2011.  Governor Cuomo spoke only one line about marriage equality in the hour-long address in Albany, but the message was emphatically clear.  “We believe in justice for all, then let’s pass marriage equality this year once and for all,” he said.

A federal judge declared that Kentucky's prohibition on same-sex marriage violates the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

California gubernatorial candidate and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman says that gays and lesbians in her state should be allowed to adopt children but not legally marry. Whitman, the top Republican in the race so far, said that she favored allowing gay couples to adopt but she does not abide same sex marriage.

Not only will Attorney General Mark Herring not defend the ban, he's joined the plaintiffs who are suing to overturn the law.
