The critically acclaimed Natalie Portman vehicle Black Swan has landed multiple nominations for major awards including The Golden Globes and The Screen Actors Guild Awards. And an aspect of the film’s mise en scene that made it so visually arresting, save for the sheer beauty of Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, is the costuming. The highly anticipated Black Swan, a psychological thriller set in the world of ballet, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and featuring lesbian undertones opens this Friday in select cities, and goes wide throughout December. Both Natalie and Mila look perfectly icy, bitchy and hot in their ballet togs, while Beaches star Barbara Hershey’s return to the big screen gives the film a horror bent more like Cat People (lay off the surgery Barb!), but I’m calling this thriller in leotards with an obsessive lesbian edge  The Turning Point meets Basic Instinct meets Fatal Attraction, and it’ll be worth every dime.

Lisa Cholodenko, her hit film The Kids Are All Right, the Natalie Portman starrer Black Swan and openly gay director John Cameron Mitchell are now certified players during the coming film awards season with numerous nominations for 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards. Annette Bening earned a nomination for playing one half of a lesbian couple in Cholodenko's film while Natalie Portman's ballerina with lesbian tendencies landed her a nod for best female lead.

The Critics Choice Awards has released its list of nominations and the Natalie Portman vehicle Black Swan leads with 12 nods, including a nomination for Portman for Best Actress. Portman’s Black Swan costar, the sassy Mila Kunis, also scored a nomination for in the supporting actress category for the excellent film that serves up a whole lot of subjective reality and one really smoking lesbian sex scene. The sex scene between Julianne Moore and Annette Bening in her recent film The Kids Are All Right was done with humor and sweetness, Cholodenko said, and was not intended for titillation. Cholodenko admits to receiving heat from lesbians, who felt betrayed that Moore's character has an affair with a man in The Kids Are All Right.

Next up, for better or worse depending on what you thought of the film, Lisa Cholodenko’s lesbian family drama starring Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, The Kids are All Right, landed two nominations as did  Lena Dunham’s Tiny Furniture. Black Swan starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis is also nominated.
