'Black Swan' Dives Into Oscar with High Art and Eye Candy: Review

Wildly inventive and yet rigorous in its adherence to themes of metamorphoses, mirroring, doubling and loss of identity, Darren Aronofsky’s thriller in point shoes, Black Swan, swoops in with its first, singular shot, and holds focus as its star sheds – or rather – molts every layer of reality from her psyche. Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder shine in this ode to the ballet world that is so much more than the kerfluffle over the lesbian sex scene.

'Black Swan's' Natalie Portman Engaged and Expecting

Critically acclaimed actress for Black Swan, Natalie Portman, is having a good year! She’s been nominated for just about every major award thus far for her turn as a psychologically cracked ballerina in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, and now she has announced she’s pregnant and engaged, according to Entertainment Weekly. While Portman was garnering loads of attention for her on-screen lesbian sex scene with Mila Kunis in Black Swan, she and Benjamin Milepied kept their off-screen romance pretty much under wraps.

Natalie Portman’s Black Swan dancing double Sarah Lane has been getting her name in the news claiming that Oscar winner Portman barely twinkled her toes in the Darren Aronofsky psychological thriller set in the ballet world. Now, costar Mila “Sweet Lips” Kunis has gotten into the mix defending Portman. While Lane claims Portman danced about five percent of the total dance scenes in the film, Portman’s fiancé and father of her baby Benjamin Millepied, who was also the choreographer on Black Swan, has arduously defended his wife to be saying she danced closer to 85 percent of the film.

SheWired's Shot of the Day: Kunis and Portman, Horror in Point Shoes

In this case, Darren Aronofsky’s ballet thriller Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as rival ballerinas teeming with sexual tension looks like the kind of hot train wreck I will gladly pay $13.50 to see opening night!
Both Natalie and Mila look perfectly icy, bitchy and hot in their ballet togs, while Beaches star Barbara Hershey’s return to the big screen gives the film a horror bent more like Cat People (lay off the surgery Barb!), but I’m calling this thriller in leotards with an obsessive lesbian edge  The Turning Point meets Basic Instinct meets Fatal Attraction, and it’ll be worth every dime.
