Jamey Rodemeyer Case Closed: Bullies Not Charged

Police closed the Jamey Rodemeyer case today without prosecuting any of his bullies, saying they lacked proof he'd been harassed. Rodemeyer killed himselfin September after facing bullying that he "could never escape,” he said in posts on the Internet. But Amherst, N.Y., police chief John Askey said that despite the 14-year-old's complaints online about bullying, there wasn't enough evidence of what happened, and the bullying couldn't be pinned to any single student.

Rachel Maddow discussed the major developments of  "don't ask, don't tell" on her show Thursday. From the arrest of 29-year-old Lt. Dan Choi and others for chaining themselves to the White House fence in protest. The National Equality March in Washington DC brought 200,000 gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight people to the streets to march for full equality in all matters of civil law. The speakers at the rally included Lady GaGa, Cynthia Nixon, Michelle Clunie, Billie Myers, Julian Bond, Dustin Lance Black, Cleve Jones, Judith Light, the Broadway cast of Hair, Stacy-Ann Chin, and other celebrities, politicians and activists alike.

Portland Oregon's Lone Lesbian Bar Closing for Good

The Egyptian Club, Portland's only lesbian bar, will close its doors for good October 9 due to financial difficulties. Owner Kim Davis expressed her dismay, telling the newspaper Just Out, "I don't want to do this, I really don't. [Running this club is] the biggest thing I've ever done in my life and the coolest."
