Lambda Legal board member Laura Ricketts made a bit of history this past weekend when she was announced as the first ever openly gay Major League Baseball owner. The Ricketts family purchased the Chicago Cubs earlier this year for a reported $845 million and officially took the
helm last week.

Leaders include Urvashi Vaid, former executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and Chicago Cubs co-owner Laura Ricketts, a co-chair of the Democratic National Committee’s LGBT Leadership Council and top bundler for President Barack Obama. Glee star Jane Lynch and tennis trailblazer Billie Jean King do not serve on the board, but they have endorsed the effort.

Boston Red Sox do 'It Gets Better'

After 9,000 fans and a 12-year-old boy urged the Boston Red Sox to create a video message for the It Gets Better campaign, the team released its video Friday. The 60-second message features Red Sox manager Terry Francona, team captain Jason Varitek, and third baseman Kevin Youkilis. It also features LGBT fans and members of "Red Sox Nation" like Kristen Rosa, a Smith College student and Red Sox fan.

Lesbian Super PAC Throws Support Behind Tammy Baldwin

LPAC, the super PAC launched to amplify lesbian voices in politics, announced that Tammy Baldwin, who is running for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin, would be the first candidate to receive its support. The group broke the not-so-surprising news to supporters Tuesday morning in an e-mail that called Baldwin’s campaign “important and historic.” The seven-term Democratic congresswoman could become the first openly gay person elected to the Senate, and voters today will select her Republican opponent from a field of four men, a contrast that LPAC emphasized in its fund-raising pitch.
